Reproduction: Introduction
The size of a population of viable microbes can change dramatically and rapidly. Microbes have the potential to explosively increase the size of their population when conditions are ideal. The population can also decline rapidly as nutrients are depleted, that is microbial populations are broadly categorized as dynamic. Because microbes are small, the population changes are rapid, the microbes respond quickly to external stimuli. Microbes use many different processes to reproduce. We will examine Reproduction in Bacteria and Reproduction in Fungi as examples of different processes, and consequences of these processes will be introduced.
